Bone, the Comic Series

Do not be fooled by the cute Disney's cartoony style pictures of the Bone series. Despite the comical approach, the series has a strong plot. This creation of Jeff Smith, running an erratic publication schedule for 55 issue, from 1991 until June 2004. The story, started as a light-hearted comedy, turning into a dark, epic fantasy, and drawing inspiration from Tolkien’esque genre
The main characters of the series are the Bone cousins: the greedy Phoney Bone, the comedy relief cigar-smoking Smiley Bone, and a very polite and big Moby Dick fans -Fone Bone. The story then quick to shift the focus to Thorn Harvestar, a simple farm girl which later revealed to be an important figure for the ensuing battle with dark army of The Lord of the Locusts.
The story has been collected into a set of nine black-and-white trade paperbacks. On 2004, they publish the 1300-page story into a single paperback volume: The Bone One Volume. While has been praised as an important step toward reaching readers outside the traditional comic-book-reading community, this super thick (4 inch!) book will come in handy in many-many different ways.
Here's a sample pages from Bone vol.3: Eyes of the Storm.
